Painting
"Confronted with solitude, Owanto starts painting in 1984, in Southern Spain. Her work rapidly evolves to a new phase as she begins a search for the mystic and a more intimate connection with her spiritual nature. After many hours alone in front of the canvas, the artist is able to reach a stillness that leads to ‘out of body experiences'. This has a profound effect on her painting, resulting in a move towards pure expression through abstraction and colour. The artist identifies the cosmic light as her true inspiration. Thus, figurative landscapes metamorphose into landscapes of the soul." (Louise Sherman)
