Introduction by Owanto
What does it all mean?
People were constantly asking me the meaning of my paintings. It came as a revelation to me that they had to have a meaning in the beginning I did not try to understand what I painted. It did not seem to matter. Intellectualism played no part. What seemed important was the pure physical act of creation a great feeling in itself! It was only later that the thought of ‘what does it mean?’ began to haunt me, to intrigue me, even to annoy me. I wanted to know what I was expressing at that stage of my life.
Rendezvous
*Il y a des rencontres qui sont des rendez-vous,
elles sont un enchantement pour le cœur.
I met professor Louise Sherman in 1996, and we had the feeling that we had always known each other. She opened my eyes and helped me to grow as an artist and, consequently, as a person. Louise helped me to read my paintings, my own writing.
I came to understand that I had an écriture a coherent language expressing my pains, my joys, my soul. It brought a new meaning to my life. I understood my primordial need for the Light the light of my soul, my connection with the Cosmic Forces, the Universal Energy, the Flow of Life.
The Flow of Life
It is well engraved in my memory the feelings enhanced by many long walks by the sea. I remember clearly my close contact with nature and how the universe magically uncovered the secrets of the Flow of Life.
Waves are like the flow of our lives leading us further. Their ebb and flow represent the transient nature of our existence, with its fleeting moments of absolute communication and happiness, those special instants when we feel whole, when we are in communion with nature, at one with the universe.
Everything in the universe moves in spirals the waves of the sea, the shells that live there, the effect of the wind on the desert sand dunes, the movement of the planets, the sign of Infinity, the wheel of life. There are millions of examples like these, as all of Nature obeys the same principle.
A spiritual journey
I believe in riding with the tide, not opposing the flow. I search for insights, messages within me and the discovery of them allows my life to become magical. I do not believe we are here by pure chance. I believe we are here for a reason and it is part of our spiritual journey to find our raison d’être.
Our awareness as to why we are in our present circumstances allows us to make the best of life. Every challenge is an opportunity for evolution, and the true desires that animate us are Cosmic Forces leading us
to a higher place.
Are the cosmic waves pushing us forward?
Where is the flow of life leading us to?
What new insights have we to uncover?
How is my perception of the world, and what lies beyond, influencing my works?
What direction is my work taking today?
Witnesses to our time
Many artists are exploring the darker side of our evolutionary journey. They bring it to our attention in many forms and ways, often hurting our sensitivity, our feelings.
We may not comprehend their message and even believe that what they are exhibiting has nothing to do with art. I do believe they are important witnesses to our time.
I love going to contemporary art fairs.
I would like to bring a brighter picture to your everyday life. I would like you to reconnect with a sense of joy, a feeling of inner harmony that you can only find at a deeper level.
Colours are messages. They talk to the soul!
